That Nice Blog Lady

Welcome to my first blog!

Spring has officially sprung with (hopefully) the promise of some better weather and certainly longer days which I know dog owners in particular really look forward to, myself included.

Harlee has already claimed all the best sun bathing spots in the garden, the seasonal changes for her simply mean lying in the garden as opposed to lying in front of the open fire!

Congratulations to Kirsty McKee, the winner of my Easter Hamper giveaway on Facebook. Hope everyone enjoys their treats!

If you missed the giveaway, follow me @thatnicedoglady to keep up to date with offers, info and general animal shenanigans!

On the subject of Easter, just a wee reminder to be super careful with your chocolate stash. Pets love chocolate but it can be really bad for them, especially milk and dark chocolate.

If you really want to spoil your dog this Easter, try this delicious recipe for homemade treats courtesy of Battersea Dog and Cats Home.

INGREDIENTS

Plain or Wholemeal Flour 300g Rolled oats 100g (non-flavoured) Eggs 2 Bananas 2 Honey 1tsp Peanut Butter 250g (make sure it does not contain xylitol sweetener which can be harmful to dogs)

METHOD

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (170 fan or 350°F).

  2. Blend together the peeled bananas, eggs, peanut butter and honey. If you don’t have a blender you can mash the bananas with a fork and whisk in the rest of the wet ingredients.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour and oats, then add this to the wet mixture.

  4. Bring the mixture together with a spoon or using hands until it forms a dough.

  5. Dust a work surface with flour and roll out the dough to be around 1cm in thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut out biscuits from the dough.

  6. Place the biscuits on a lined baking tray and bake in the oven for around 20 minutes or until golden brown in colour. Leave to cool fully before feeding to your dog.

Alternatively treat your pet to some new apparel like this Easter/Spring bandana modelled by my beautiful Harlee by @Suzie a small, local business in Northern Ireland. Although in the third pic she is giving me the side eye for my David Bailie efforts and treats just weren't cutting it anymore. Don't think @DollyPawton has anything to worry about!
